NEUROTOXINS

Neurotoxins, like Botox and Jeuveau, are proteins that temporarily relax muscles in our face. Muscle contractions on our forehead, between the eyebrows and around our eyes create lines and wrinkles that, over time, leave lines that are present even when we are not making faces. Use of neurotoxins helps PREVENT these lines from developing in the first place and keeps the skin on your face looking smooth and firm. Patients start to see effects within a few days, with full effects being reached around two weeks and the results typically last 3-5 months.

Neurotoxins are sold by the “unit” and how many units you need depends on your anatomy. While a typical treatment can range from 20-50 units, a consultation is necessary to evaluate your face and determine just how many units you need.

***AFTER YOUR INJECTIONS, a reminder that you need to remain upright and refrain from heavy exercise for FOUR HOURS afterwards***

DERMAL FILLERS

Dermal fillers, such as the Restylane lines of fillers, are jelly-like substances that are placed under the skin to restore volume that we have lost with age. Common places to have injected include the cheeks, nasolabial folds (“smile lines”) and the lips. Fillers provide an immediate plumping to the treated areas but final results are seen 2-4 weeks after injection, after any swelling or bruising has resolved. The effects of fillers last 9-18 months, depending on the product used and the area injected.

Fillers are sold by the syringe and more than one syringe may be necessary, depending on your desired outcome. A thorough consultation is necessary to determine where and how much filler is required.

***AFTER YOUR INJECTIONS, a reminder that you want to avoid heavy exercise for 24 hours and be gentle on the areas injected for about two weeks afterwards***

Take acetaminophen for discomfort and apply ice as needed for swelling and discomfort.

It is normal to feel product under the skin surface for several weeks after injection but there should not be visible lumps or bumps.

LASER SKIN TREATMENTS

Lasers have been used on the skin for decades to help us look younger and to restore changes that have come with age. Laser technology has many uses in medical aesthetics and regenerative medicine including:

  • Laser hair removal
  • Skin tightening
  • Skin resurfacing/ repair skin texture
  • Reduce the appearance and size of scars
  • Skin pigmentation (age spots, melasma, etc)
  • Body contouring

Other amazing uses for lasers include:

  • Laser hair restoration
  • Reduce snoring
  • Vaginal rejuvenation and tightening
  • Treatment of onchomycosis (toe nail fungus)

The Doctors Office is super excited to offer a large variety of laser services thanks to having a Fotona SP Dynamis laser in house! Fotona has a reputation for creating unique laser technologies that minimize discomfort and downtime, all while providing maximum results.

Regardless of the procedure, laser treatments generally require a series of treatments to obtain your best results. A personalized consultation will help determine how many treatments you might need and over what period of time.

Direct sun exposure in the weeks leading up to, and immediately after, your laser sessions is not recommended because of the increased risk of burns and hyperpigmentation of the skin. Wearing sunblock is ALWAYS advised but it is especially important while doing laser treatments of any kind.

CHEMICAL PEELS

Chemical peels are an amazing part of a skin care routine but can also be super effective at treating a number of issues! The Doctors Office is proud to carry VIPeel medical grade chemical peels, which are safe for ages 13+, are safe on all skin colors and have special formulations for different goals. Whether you are trying to reduce lines and wrinkles, decrease pigmentation or treat active acne, there is a VIPeel for you.

In general, chemical peels work by applying different compounds (typically including some form of acid) to the skin and as part of their effects, they cause the skin to create more new, young and healthy cells, which cause the older cells on top of the skin to shed off or, peel. Chemical peels come in different combinations and strengths, which impact how deep the chemicals penetrate and how effective the results will be. It is important that your provider know how to properly apply chemical peels to make sure you achieve all the benefits of the peel without potential complications such as a burn or hyperpigmentation.

At TDO, chemical peels are applied in-house and the product is worn on your face for about 4 hours afterwards. The peeling process typically starts about Day 3-4 and lasts until Day 7-8. Individual results may vary in terms of how much peeling is experienced, how long it lasts, etc. but dont worry! Even if there is not a strong “peel”, the product is getting under the skin where it needs to be to work.

Exfoliating agents like retinols and tretinoin should be stopped for at least a week before a chemical peel and discontinued for at least 2 weeks after. Direct sun exposure following a peel is discouraged for the first 2 weeks because the skin is more thin and sensitive than normal and has a higher chance of burning or developing hyperpigmentation.

SKINCARE

The Doctors Office chooses to carry Sente as their medical grade line of skin care products because they are safe on all skin types, affordable and EFFECTIVE!! While there are many good product lines out there, we can recommend Sente in confidence because its patented active ingredient, Heparan Sulfate Analog (HSA), is an anti-inflammatory, pro-hydrating and collagen-building molecule that is present in all of their products. Their staple moisturizer, Dermal Repair Cream, is approved by the National Rosacea Society for reducing redness and irritation on areas affected by rosacea. The products have no dyes, perfumes or over-aggressive components, making them perfect for even the most sensitive of skins! Don’t believe us?! Try them out to see for yourself.
